WASHINGTON, April 18, 2025 — The leaked proposal to slash $40 billion from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) budget poses a devastating threat to millions of individuals and families in low-income households across the country.
WASHINGTON, April 16, 2025 – Yesterday, Arkansas and Indiana submitted waivers to restrict food choices for Americans in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), with Idaho and other states indicating similar plans. These proposals represent a troubling precedent that shifts SNAP away from its core mission: reducing hunger and supporting the health and dignity of those in need.

Instead of prioritizing ending hunger and poverty in this country, the budget blueprint aims to advance tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy.
WASHINGTON, March 11, 2025 – The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) today released state-by-state fact sheets detailing how proposed cuts to the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) would worsen childhood hunger, hurt struggling families, and create unnecessary burdens for schools and districts.
WASHINGTON, March 5, 2025 – The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) and more than 1,800 national, state, and local organizations from every state in the country signed on to a letter urging Congress to reject any proposals that would cut or weaken the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the child nutrition programs. The letter underscores the critical role SNAP plays in helping tens of millions of people put food on the table and how SNAP goes beyond food assistance, including supporting health and boosting the economy.
